1962: Dr. Doom debuts in Fantastic Four #5.

1963: Dr. Strange debuts in Strange Tales #110.

1966: The Black Panther makes his first appearance in Fantastic Four #52, making him the first costumed black superhero.

1977: Marvel Comics publishes an official comics adaptation of George Lucas' Star Wars. It would ultimately lead to more than 100 issues of original stories and greater links between comics and TV shows, movies, and and toys.

1982: Jaime, Gilbert, and Mario Hernandez debut Love and Rockets #1 for Fantagraphics.

1986: The nigh-invulnerable Tick debuts in New England Comics' store newsletter, although the first Tick comic will not debut until March, 1988.
