1939: Marvel Comics #1 is published by Martin Goodman. Despite the name of the book, the company will not be known as Marvel Comics until 1963.

1940: The Justice Society of America unites for the first time in All-Star Comics #3, making it the first superhero team in the comics.

1966: After teases and near-misses stretching back more than a year, readers finally hit the jackpot as we see Mary-Jane Watson's face for the first time in Amazing Spider-Man #42, drawn by John Romita Sr.

1987: Don Lomax publishes the first issue of the autobiographical Vietnam Journal for Apple Comics.
