Events for September

1956: Julie Schwartz and Carmine Infantino re-introduce the Flash (Barry Allen) in Showcase #4, kicking off the Silver Age of Comic Books.

1962: The Silver Age Flash (Barry Allen) met the Golden Age Flash (Jay Garrick) in the "Flash of Two Worlds" story of Flash #123, introducing parallel universes into the common comic book lexicon.

1963: X-Men #1 debuts from Marvel Comics, introducing Cyclops, Iceman, Beast, Angel, Jean Grey, Professor X, and Magneto to a mutant-free world. That same month, Loki attempts to stir up trouble on Earth, but only causes five heroes to band together to form the Avengers in Avengers #1.

1970: Fantastic Four #102 is published, the last issue by the team of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. At the time, it becomes the longest continuous run of a monthly comic book by the same creative team.

1971: House of Secrets #92 marks the first appearance of Swamp Thing by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson.

1986: DC Comics publishes Watchmen #1 by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons.
